What research are you currently working on? I like the fact that there is such a diverse way to approach and solve the problems that are presented in these types of cases. No two cases are the same and each presents its own set of challenges. ![]() Both of these conditions require you to ‘think on your feet’ in the OR. What are your interests?įrom a surgical standpoint, I really enjoy taking care of patients with retinal detachments and trauma cases. With further research, it became apparent that this practice had what exactly what I was looking for: physicians and staff with the best training, exceptional commitment to clinical research, and remarkable dedication to patient care… all in a great location that was close to our family. When I spoke with my mentors at both Iowa and Bascom Palmer, they were very familiar with the work of Drs. The reputation of RAK is what initially interested me in the practice. What led you to choose Retina Associates? He is a National Board Examiner and is listed on the OSN Retina Top 150 Innovators in Medical Surgical Retina. He is featured on the Discovery Channel’s Mystery Diagnosis. Kitchens has developed several innovative surgical techniques and has been awarded the American Society Retina Specialists “Rhett Buckler” Award on 3 different occasions. ![]() He enjoys speaking both nationally and internationally about new treatments for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetes, and vascular disease. Kitchens is listed in Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors, America’s Top Ophthalmologists and Best Doctors in America. He completed his fellowship and was the Chief Resident at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. He served his ophthalmology residency at the University of Iowa Hospital. Kitchens, MD received his undergraduate degree from the University of Evansville, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. ![]()
